The Best Maine Beach Walk

August 4th, 2016

OOBI took the best walk in Maine yesterday with some girlfriends.  We parked at the Pine Point Beach parking lot in Scarborough, put on our hats and sunglasses, threw some cash in our shorts pocket and left our flip flops in the car.  Then we walked 2.5 miles to the Old Orchard Beach Pier.

It took about an hour but we weren’t in a rush.  By that time we were hungry and thirsty so we had lunch and a cocktail at Surf 6 Oceanfront Grille & Bar.  The Lobster Stew and Spring Salad with Cranberries and Walnuts were delicious, as was the Paradise Martini (who can say no to coconut rum?)

After lunch we walked the 2.5 miles back to Pine Point Beach and then placed some chairs in the surf for an hour or so before heading home.  The best beach day I’ve had in a long time – including a five mile walk, laughter with friends and lunch with a gorgeous view of Old Orchard Beach.  Summer in Maine at Pine Point Beach and Old Orchard Beach – it doesn’t get any better than this.

pine point pierAs an avid user of Pine Point Beach and a frequent user of the local eateries at Pine Point, I will be watching this situation at the pier with interest.  I’m pleased to see that all parties involved seem to be working together towards a solution that will work for the public and the working waterfront.

Pine Point – It’s More than a Beach

Pine Point – It’s a Lifestyle

Pine Point, Maine

Pine Point, Maine

Located just 20 minutes from the Portland International Jetport and a less than two hour drive from Boston, Pine Point is the crown jewel of the Southern Maine Coast. Separated from the mainland by a beautiful salt marsh, Pine Point sits on Maine’s only seven mile white sand beach.

To the east Pine Point faces the Atlantic Ocean with classic Maine views of Biddeford Pool, the Audubon Islands and Prout’s Neck, made famous as the home of artist Winslow Homer. Pine Point is a safe family friendly beach, perfect for kayaking or relaxing and for the adventurous, home to the finest windsurfing in Maine.

The harbor side of Pine Point is a working waterfront and home to the Pine Point lobster fleet. Harbor side includes a fresh seafood market and lovely casual dining restaurants dockside.

Pine Point is an unrivaled family beachfront enclave just twenty minutes from the shopping, entertainment and world-class restaurant scene in Portland’s Old Port. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this tiny, yet extraordinary Maine community.

Pine Tree Seafood

This time of year, I really begin to miss Pine Point’s seafood restaurants… but am so grateful for Pine Tree Seafood for offering the freshest seafood and produce all year round.  My favorites are the lobster rolls, swordfish, fish chowder, and yellow fin tuna, but the choices are endless!  Great time to refresh, or try new recipes with their wonderful ingredients:

Pine Point Restaurants

We are heading toward the end of February! That means a number of our local restaurants will be opening soon. The Pine Point Grille will be one of the first- opening on March 17th (less than 30 days) – just in time for a green beer, and all of their delicious menu items. A great place to rendezvous with friends after the winter months:

Another sure harbinger of spring – the opening of Ken’s Seafood Restaurant – a favorite ritual for local residents and Pine Point visitors! I am counting down to March 20th! Did you know that the first Tuesday of each month Ken’s serves Fried Oysters? Not to be missed-they truly melt in your mouth!

And later this spring, when the weather warms up a bit, you’ll find me at the Bait Shed and Bayley’s Lobster Pound. Bayley’s just celebrated their 100th year in business, and their more recent addition of the Bait Shed has been great for all who love Pine Point. Fresh oysters, lobster, steamers – all served comfortably on the friendly deck overlooking the Scarborough River. You’re sure to leave with memories of a great time – don’t forget to take home one of the signature glasses!

When I First Met Pine Point

The gorgeous waters of Pine Point Beach

Something about this time of year prompts me to think of when I first “met” Pine Point and what I love so much about it.

I can be in the Old Port, and enjoy an exhibit, play, concert or world renowned restaurant in 20 minutes!

Or, if I’ve had a busy day kayaking, walking the beach, or entertaining family and friends, we can don our favorite T-shirt, flip flops and shorts, and walk to 5 or 6 local eateries.

Pine Point is like a quaint village oasis – energizing and relaxing.

Imagine seeing this view every day from one of my Pine Point listings.

My 5 Favorite Things about Pine Point

February 6th, 2016

Only 114 days to Memorial Day….And I am thinking about the 5 favorite things that make Pine Point so special to me:

  1. An early morning walk on the endless white, sandy beach
  2. Oysters and a chilled glass of white wine on the deck of The Bait Shed
  3. Kayaking through the marsh to the Rising Tide
  4. Stopping by Bayley’s Lobster Pound to pick up the essentials for our first Lobster Bake
  5. The 4th of July Parade ending with strawberry shortcake at the Fire House
Blissfully counting down the days  to my favorite summer place! If this sounds as wonderful to you as it does to me, check out my Pine Point listings!
